Château de L’Ou Ipso Facto 2015
Bought in 1998, this is a family run estate created by the incredibly talented and passionate Séverine and Philippe Bourrier, and lies just to the south of Perpignan, in the plains region of the Roussillon. It consists of three separate terroirs, all farmed organically. The vineyard terroir for Chateau de L’Ou Blanc Cotes Du Roussillon consists of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain. The name of the estate comes from the Catalan word l’Ou, meaning egg, because of the egg-shaped well on the property.
Dubbed “A Rising Star in the Roussillon” by Jeb Dunnuck, their wines are exceptional.
Three terroirs come together as the ultimate definition of Chateau de L’Ou. The selection of best grapes is put into the barrel after being destalked. Maceration lasts for 5 weeks before being emptied and pressed. The wines are put back into the barrels and left for 18 months. An elegant wine in a deep purple-red robe promised the complex aromas of violets, blackcurrant, followed by cocoa. The palate is balanced and powerful, highlighting the wine’s silky, elegant tannins. Its expressive personality shines through in an appealing sequence of black fruits and liquorice with a sprinkling of peppercorns.
