Château de L’Ou Rouge
Bought in 1998, this is a family run estate created by the incredibly talented and passionate Séverine and Philippe Bourrier, and lies just to the south of Perpignan, in the plains region of the Roussillon. It consists of three separate terroirs, all farmed organically. The vineyard terroir for Chateau de L’Ou Blanc Cotes Du Roussillon consists of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain. The name of the estate comes from the Catalan word l’Ou, meaning egg, because of the egg-shaped well on the property.
Dubbed “A Rising Star in the Roussillon” by Jeb Dunnuck, their wines are exceptional.
The secret to this incredibly flavorful wine is immediate maceration after harvesting for 48 hours at 39°F. Then vinification and aging of 12 months in stainless steel vats. An aromatic and fruity blend with crunchy red and black bramble fruits complemented by a touch of peppery spice and a subtle hint of violets. The flavours are crisp, acid is bright and tannins are firm and grippy.
