Château de L’Ou Infiniment de L’Ou Rouge 2020
Bought in 1998, this is a family run estate created by the incredibly talented and passionate Séverine and Philippe Bourrier, and lies just to the south of Perpignan, in the plains region of the Roussillon. It consists of three separate terroirs, all farmed organically. The vineyard terroir for Chateau de L’Ou Blanc Cotes Du Roussillon consists of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain. The name of the estate comes from the Catalan word l’Ou, meaning egg, because of the egg-shaped well on the property.
Dubbed “A Rising Star in the Roussillon” by Jeb Dunnuck, their wines are exceptional.
On the nose it is an explosion of ripe fruits and spices; the palate is delicate, silky and tasty on the same notes. A delicious Syrah which has charming notes of jammy black fruit such as cherry, blackberry, blackcurrant, are expressed on the palate, accompanied by an elegant melted oaky structure. The latter gives the whole product very gourmet aromas of toasted bread, vanilla, white pepper and chocolate.
“Complete Vinification in Barrels”: the destemmed grapes are placed directly in 300-litre barrels (only one of the two bottoms is closed). Maceration lasts 3 to 4 weeks with manual punching down, then each barrel is emptied and pressed, the cooper coming to close the barrels at the estate. The wine finishes fermentation in these same barrels. Aging for 12 to 14 months.
