Domaine Boucabeille Les Orris Rouge 2018
The wines of the Boucabeille estate are produced mainly on the Forca real hill 15 km northwest of Perpignan. It promotes biodiversity around the vine by planting forest and scrubland but also creates ponds and places dozens of beehives. The Forca real hill is made up of slate schists that date back 450 million years.
The schist allows the vine to penetrate deep in order to find all the elements it needs (water and minerals). The altitude of the vines (505 meters) brings freshness. This terroir also brings roundness and length in the mouth, as well as a lot of finesse and complex aromas.
In the glass, the wine appears almost inky black and leaves no doubt that this is an extraordinary wine. The aroma is an explosion of red berries and nuances of candied fruit, violet, freshly ground pepper and vanilla. The taste is concentrated, revealing an aromatic richness and concentration that is quite unique. A monumental wine. Enjoy quietly in spacious glasses for up to two to three decades after the harvest year.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate – April 2017: 95/100: A gorgeous effort based on 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache, the deep purple/ ruby coloured 2015 Cote du Roussillion Les Orris offers impeccably clean notes of black raspberries and cassis intermixed with notions of new leather, pepper and scrub bush. Full bodies, elegant and seamless, with beautiful and fine tannins. it should keep a decade or more.
