Cantine Amastuola Aglianico 2015
Located in Crispiano in the Puglia region, Amastuola organic wines are the result of an artisanal process that strongly recalls tradition while employing advanced technologies. The vineyards sit on a plateau at an altitude of 210 meters above sea level and are farmed entirely according to certified organic practices.
Aglianico is a red wine grape now thought to be native to southern Italy and sometimes called “The Barolo of the South” (il Barolo del Sud).
This Aglianico has a bright and full ruby-red colour. The nose is penetrating, balsamic, with tertiary spicy aromas: black pepper, mace and nutmeg bound by light toasted notes. On the palate it is warm, well balanced and decidedly tannic with a dense, dry and mature tannin. The finish, voluminous and persistent, ends with a spicy and balsamic retronasal return. Aglianico goes well with red meat, either baked or grilled, game and ripened cheeses. Aged 24 months in sessile oak barrels. 100% Aglianico
“Along with Nebbiolo and Sangiovese, [Aglianico] is generally believed to be on of Italy’s three best wine grapes, but in my opinion it is far more…” –Ian D’Agata, Native Wine Grapes of Italy
