Château de L’Ou Ipso Facto 2018

$238.00

Bought in 1998, this is a family run estate created by the incredibly talented and passionate Séverine and Philippe Bourrier, and lies just to the south of Perpignan, in the plains region of the Roussillon. It consists of three separate terroirs, all farmed organically. The vineyard terroir for Chateau de L’Ou Blanc Cotes Du Roussillon consists of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain. The name of the estate comes from the Catalan word l’Ou, meaning egg, because of the egg-shaped well on the property.

Dubbed “A Rising Star in the Roussillon” by Jeb Dunnuck, their wines are exceptional.

The flagship of the estate is the 100% Syrah 2018 Cotes Catalanes Ipso Facto, which comes from three separate terroirs and is vinified all in new barrels. The purple-red colour elegantly but unreservedly dresses the complex aromas of violet, blackcurrant and cocoa. The powerful and balanced palate offers silky and extremely elegant tannins. The captivating character of black fruits, liquorice and a few notes of pepper cannot leave you indifferent… A wine of expression and emotion..

About The Product

“Complete Vinification in Barrels”: the grapes, from a grain-by-grain selection, are placed directly in 300-litre barrels (only one of the two bottoms is closed). Maceration lasts 5 weeks with manual punching down, then each barrel is emptied and pressed, the cooper coming to close the barrels at the estate. The wine finishes fermentation in these same barrels. Aged for 18 months.

The flagship of the estate is the 100% Syrah 2018 Cotes Catalanes Ipso Facto, which comes from three separate terroirs and is vinified all in new barrels. Not yet bottled, it has a fresh, vibrant style yet still packs plenty of oomph in its currants, fresh plums, crushed rocks, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and opulent, it stays weightless on the palate, has polished tannins, beautifully integrated oak, and a great finish. It’s a blockbuster from this estate that will be approachable right out of the gate yet keep for a decade or more. 94-96+
