Château de L’Ou Compartir 2020

$98.00

Bought in 1998, this is a family run estate created by the incredibly talented and passionate Séverine and Philippe Bourrier, and lies just to the south of Perpignan, in the plains region of the Roussillon. It consists of three separate terroirs, all farmed organically. The vineyard terroir for Chateau de L’Ou Blanc Cotes Du Roussillon consists of alluvial marls of the Roussillon plain. The name of the estate comes from the Catalan word l’Ou, meaning egg, because of the egg-shaped well on the property.

Dubbed “A Rising Star in the Roussillon” by Jeb Dunnuck, their wines are exceptional.

A full bodied, rich and yet seamlessly elegant Roussillon expression with abundant notes of kirsch and blackberry layered with ground pepper, garrigue herbs and spice. Classic richness is perfectly balanced by considerable elegance.

About The Product

The nose is characterized by black fruits, cassis with a violet bouquet. There is spice, peppery herbs, chalky mineral, and liquorice. The powerful and rich mouth seduces by its complex aromas of chocolate, blackberries and thyme. Very fine tannins.
This big, rich, heady effort has full-bodied richness, a supple, layered texture, fabulous purity of fruit, and a great finish.

“Based on Grenache, Carignan, and Syrah, the 2020 Côtes Du Roussillon Villages Compartir is another deep purple-hued release from this château revealing a great nose of both cassis and darker berry-like fruit as well as spice, peppery herbs, chalky mineral, and licorice. This big, rich, heady effort has full-bodied richness, a supple, layered texture, fabulous purity of fruit, and a great finish.” Jeb Dunnuck

“Certified organic (Ecocert and AB). Compartir means to share. Mostly Grenache Noir with some Carignan and Syrah. Partly vinifed in concrete and part in 500-litre open barrels for six weeks. Aged separately, blended at end. Chocolate and cherries. Amazingly sweet fruit – a huge hug of a wine singing its heart out. But there is also graphite, the sensation of a pencil drawing a long line. Like the sketch and etch of a tree against a winter sky but with the red gleam of a Christmas-tree bauble bringing glow and curves and gleam. ” Jancis Robinson 17.5/20 points. (TC)
